Hey, thanks for taking the time! I’m working on a product to help roommates manage rent and shared expenses more easily. I’d love to hear about how you currently handle this — there are no right or wrong answers. Just your experience.
Q: Can you tell me a bit about your current living setup?
I live in Boston with one roommate. We’ve been living together for about 7 months now while studying at university.
Q: How do you and your roommates currently split rent, utilities, or groceries?
We use Splitwise and Venmo for most of it. Rent is split equally, and we usually just log shared groceries into Splitwise whenever one of us shops. Internet and electricity are also added monthly by whoever pays.
Q: What tools or apps — if any — do you use to track shared expenses?
Mostly just Splitwise. Occasionally Venmo, but we don’t really use any budgeting tools beyond that.
Q: What’s the most annoying or frustrating part about managing shared expenses?
Honestly, tracking recurring bills like Wi-Fi or rent gets repetitive. Sometimes one of us forgets to add something or splits aren’t logged for days, so it creates some uncertainty.
