User Research Goals

Our objective is to understand how students and young professionals:

• Manage rent and shared expenses in real life
• Track who owes what, and how often that leads to conflict
• Deal with reminders, budgeting, and splitting tools (Venmo, Splitwise, etc.)
• Think about budgeting over a month or semester
• Use tools (or hacks) to understand their finances — or if they don’t at all

We're especially curious about:

• The pain points around shared expenses
• The language people use when discussing budgeting and roommate money talk
• What they’ve tried, and why it didn’t work

User Interview Script

Interview Goal: Understand how students and roommates currently manage shared rent, bills, and budgeting — what works, what breaks down, and what they truly need.

Intro (1–2 min)

Hey, thanks for taking the time! I’m working on a product to help roommates manage rent and shared expenses more easily. I’d love to hear about how you currently handle this — there are no right or wrong answers. Just your experience.

1. Can you tell me a bit about your current living setup?

   (e.g., Where you live, how many roommates, how long you’ve lived there)

2. How do you and your roommates currently split rent, utilities, or groceries?

   (Follow-up: Who manages it? Is there a group system?)
